The International Society of Infectious Diseases is reporting 975 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus (including 64 deaths) across Europe since June 2018. A viral disease most commonly spread by mosquitoes, countries with above average incidences include Italy, Greece and Serbia. This is around 3 1/2 times the number reported in last years entire season. Symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting and a rash and less commonly, meningitis leading to death. With no vaccine available, mosquito avoidance measures are imperative.
